Augusta Savage Cultural & Community Arts Center

This renovation of the old Clay County African American High School campus is waiting for additional funding to transform the existing dilapidated five building campus into a 35,000sf cultural and community arts center.
Phase I scope of work included weather sealing the existing buildings and performing an ADA survey. This included the replacement of metal deck and rusted joists, new low sloped roofing and asphalt re-shingling. The campus was a mixture of masonry, brick and stucco which was also in need of mortar re-pointing and window re-sealing.
Phase II is waiting for additional funding to fully restore each of the buildings into a cafetorium, gymnasium, an industrial arts classroom for teaching, a food bank to serve the needs of the community and a library/museum featuring work of the famous sculptor Augusta Savage from the Green Cove Springs area.
